While ramping up their "Smoothie IPA", the brewers at Mirror Twin must be trippin' as they just start dumping the fruits of mango, lime, tangerine and pineapple into a "triple" New England-styled IPA
Pale gold and pastel in a matte finish, Triple Trippin' Froots once again hit the nose with as much of a citrus hop kick and a tangy tartness as it does the fruits that are advertised. Herbal with notes of verbena and grassiness, its hop spice leads into a taste of pastry dough, sherbet sweetness and honey.
As the middle palate becomes awash with the fructose laden sweetness, the creaminess of malt overshadows the acidity of the citrus, tropical and orchard fruit and soon leads to a tangy and bitter interplay late on the palate that's balanced with gin-like spice, green tea, verbena, lemongrass and an overall green spice character.
Full bodied and full in flavor, the hops add a mild dryness and a smooth bitterness in the beer's closure. The tartness and pectin spice of fruit add a sense of lightness to the body and adds an extra measure of peppery balance to go along with the hops. A medium long linger of fruit puree with cereal and sherbet eventually frame the beer's finish.
