If I see another New England-styled IPA with tangerine, blood orange, mango or strawberry, I'm gonna....
Oh For Fruits Sake!
But that's how things roll at the Mirror Twin brewery. Their hazy ways take them though the orchard field while their For Fruits Sake pours pale gold and with a muddy taupe appearance. Lightly silted to the eye, an off white creme floats to the rim before drawing the senses with those prescribed citrus, tropical and orchard fruits. While a creamy backdrop of cereal and pastry dough bridge the beer's scent to its taste, a first sip of honeysuckle, agave and shortbread frame a sweet and starchy upstart.
But the hops carry the taste over to the middle palate as their own flavors of orange, pineapple, grapefruit and mango set a fruity tone. And once the fruit juices link up with the hops, the taste turns from fruit impressions and into the full-blown juiciness from those fruits. A gentle bitterness soon follows as the late taste is slightly herbal, peppery and grassy.
Medium-bodied but trending both malty-dry and rounded, the beer is off-dry on the palate while remaining crisp and palatable. Without becoming a smoothie, the Hazy IPA gives us a glimpse into summer while dealing with the cold weather. It's basically an alcoholic fruit rollup in a glass.
