Taking their Mos Def Mosaic IPA on a fruity and herbal trip the beer enjoys a new life with the additions of green tea and candied star fruit for a slight Eastern Hemisphere take on their American classic.
Turbid and slightly muddy, the deep goldenrod beer shares a rusty opaqueness while crowning with a dense tarnish froth. A rounded scent of tea, hemp, berry, tropical fruit, citrus and earth swoon the nose with a pungent and herbal perfume. Sweeter and pastry-like on the tongue, a bold taste of honey and caramel layer on the tongue like shortcake.
As the malts relax, the hops of Mosaic play out on the middle palate like mango, orange, grapefruit, passionfruit and blackcurrant. Deep with dark berry flavors, hints of grape, blueberry and plum shine through the more tropical taste of star fruit as a papaya and pawpaw flavor starts to rise. Herbal with the hemp-like nature of hops and also with the spicy greenness of tea, the finish is spicy, herbal and verbena-like with a sharp bitterness to close.
Earthy and pungent thorughout, the beer casts a "dirty" herbal flavor over the session as the beer finishes on the spicy and bitter side with a long aftertaste of spicy bitterness and tea.
