Brewed to benefit the Lexington Humane Society, Mirror Twin also showcases the hops of Grungeist for a taste that's basically scoobie snacks for hop-heads.
Pouring a milky orange appearance with hints of gold and amber, It's Raining Dogs builds a rich meringue before alluring the senses with a stone fruit, tropical blend, and citronella perfume. Bright and floral, the taste leans in the creamy cereal, shortcake and honey-like direction.
As the Grungeist hops develop on the tongue, the sweetness starts to fade. A racy taste of apricot and nectarine is front and center but not without a quick followup of passionfruit, lemon and melon. As elements of papaya and pineapple form, the taste continues to tighten into a spicy but smooth bitterness that's redolent with wine, lemongrass and peppercorn.
Medium bodied and holding onto a firm and starch maltiness deep into the session, the beer finishes with a spicy bitterness to offset some sweetness and to offer a sense of drinkability and complexity heading into finish. A medium long aftertaste of sherbet, gin and lemon tea follow gently into the next sip.
