Taking IPA to a place that's seldom seen, Mirror Twin rolls the usual fruity, creamy and smooth Hazy But Lazy ale in cinnamon, maple, almond and pear for an added breakfast touch to the otherwise slightly bitter ale.
The results swoon the senses with a bold maple, nutty, vanilla-like aroma that's as welcoming to the beer glass as it is the breakfast table. Toasty, citrusy and rich with cereal and the Denny's special is complete. Densely packed with a creamy and light taupe pour, the turbid What The French Toast? rewards the tastebuds with the creamy sweetness of cereal, honey, maple, marzipan and vanilla cream.
Initially frothy but falling still, the beer's undercurrent of hops are revealed on the middle palate. An abundance of orange, red grapefruit, mango and apricot all seem to reinforce an orange juice character even while the maple persists. Juicy with pear, the bolstered maltiness also shares flavors of cantaloup and honeydew before a smooth and slightly bitter finish of spruce, citrus peel and fine green herb.
Full, creamy and plush on the late palate, the original IPA continues to grow while much of the pastry effects wear off nearing finish, but along with a light and botanical gin-like spice so persists those overtones of maple deep into a bittersweet and savory afterglow.
