Fruity, tart and decidedly dank, Mirror Twin's base sour ale carries a little of a hop kick to bring those cannabis-driven notes a little closer to home.
Pale gold and caught in a fine foggy appearance, Dankenstein carries part-froth, part-fizz foam with a scent of citrus, herb, tropical fruit and a general gin-like botanical aroma. Gentle sweetness hits the tongue with the softness of wheat, a hint of vanilla cream and a wafer-like grain character.
The fruit impressions have a big say on the middle palate as the ale bursts with white grapefruit and slightly under ripened oranges. Lemon and lime have a piquant tartness that roll into more tropical hints of pineapple and passionfruit, Herbal with a grassy, hemp-like and fresh sprucy finish, the late taste is slightly bitter and largely acidic.
Medium-light in body, the beer's juicy middle palate suggests something fuller but its dry sourness and slightly hop bite suggests something lighter and drier. Finishing with crabapple, vanilla spice and a white wine character, the aftertaste is short and succinct.
