No matter how much flavor, complexity, nuances or textures to consider, sometimes you just need a cold beer. Mirror Twin sees the need and cold crashes the party with their version of cold IPA.
Fueled with Mosaic hops, Cold Runnings kicks things off with a pale straw, slightly hazy pour. As a billowing cotton white froth builds, so do the herbal, green, citrus and tropical fruits that all seem young and under ripened. The low level maltiness meets the tongue with a dry and crisp backdrop of honeysuckle, wafer and water cracker.
With the grain sweetness receding further, the hops spring to life with the uniqueness of passionfruit, white grapefruit, lime and bitter orange. Quickly developing an herbal flavor, the session shifts to a taste of fresh grass clipping, botanical herbs and a spicy hemp-like taste. Sprucy as it closes, a firm bitterness of tropical fruit peels, lemongrass, verbena and black tea keep the spicy hops rolling.
Medium bodied and offering a refreshing, drinkable and drying taste, the high "green" character gives the beer a curious taste that trails into a bright grassiness with fresh spruce, currant and fruit peels.
