Teaming up with local craft sake makers, Void, Mirror Twin blends their use of rice in a dry, crisp and refreshing IPA that lightens the taste in the only way that rice can.
Rice Rice Baby arrives with a brilliant glowing chrome appearance while capped with a cottony white froth. While overtones of fruit prefume, spruce and fresh grasses greet the nose, so does the light pear, honeysuckle and apple nuances of sake rice wines. Light on sweetness, the mildest suggestions of caramel, honey and graham cracker decorate the taste.
As the light IPA washes the middle palate, its bubbly action scrubs away the thirst as a citrusy flavor of orange, light grapefruit and pineapple quickly replaces the fleeting malt sweetness. Tightening into a cleanly bitter late palate, the beer wastes no time highlighting its dried spruce, grassy, herbal and resinous bitterness in closing.
Light, crisp and highly refreshing, the beer is clean and clearly palatable, giving Mirror Twin's portfolio a type of IPA that has been sorely missing. Easily disguised as an "India Pale Lager", this beer drinks swiftly, having us crawling back to the bar for another rather quickly.
