Built similar to their black beer cousins to the west, the Czech-style dark lagers share also a softer, less roasty and smoother texture that aligns it similar to Dunkel. And that's what Mirror Twin does with the seldom seen style.
Czech Mate comes to the bar with a dark brown, slightly rusty haze along with a delicate lacy creme. A robust scent of nuttiness comes with hints of coffee, chocolate and honey as the sultry lager sets roasty tone. Sweeter in its early impressions, those hints of honey, light cream and chocolate.
As the flavors simmer on the middle palate like a softer brown ale, the lager adds a smoother cold brewed coffee character that skirts past the sweetness and dries to a slightly woodsy, smoothly roasty finish with a light char left behind.
Medium bodied and finishing malty dry with hints of malted milk caramel, cold brew and subtle hop spices, the easy drinking dark beer is caught somewhere between schwarzbier and dunkel.
