Teaming up with Country Boy Brewing, the brewers of Mirror Twin lead the pack in making a Citra and Nelson hopped IPA with an experimental yeast that brings out the more tropical flavors of both of these hops.
Lower Latitude takes on that quintessential New Zealand flavor right after a pour of pale lemon yellow, heavily hazed and frothy with a stark white cap. As aromatic notes of passionfruit, orange and pineapple roll from the foam, so do herbal aromas of tea, herb and juniper. With a sweeter and starchier upstart, the early taste circulates around cereal, light honey and shortcake.
And then the hops garner command with a burst of branch ripe tangerine, pink grapefruit and lime. Not to be outdone, the tropical flavors of passionfruit, pineapple, pawpaw and papaya create a nearly tangy fruit character. All wrapped in the juiciness of honeydew, the beer soon turns toward a finish of herb, spruce, grasses and fruit peels in a mild mannered bitterness to close.
Full bodied, full flavored and plump with juicy hop character, the beer celebrates a high level of flavor but at the sacrifice of dryness, cleanliness or refreshment that would add a more thirst quenching character. With a spice of gin in finish, the beer trails into a fruity and herbal aftertaste.
