Proving that they are not simply robots, the hop of Motueka is usually recommended for other sytles of beer than IPA. But Mirror Twin refutes all that and celebrates the spicy, floral and herbal hop in a New England-styled IPA.
I Am Not A Robot comes to the bar with a pale yellow, puddin'-looking appearance. Deeply hazy and topped with a rich meringue, the beer leads with a fruity scent of tropical, citrus and fresh herb in the most gentle of citronella perfumes. Sweeter in its early taste, the beer's cereal quality shines with hints of sugar cookie, shortcake and honeysuckle.
The hops spring out on the middle palate as they show an uncharacteristically large citrus presence of grapefruit and lemon along with pronounced fruits of passionfruit, papaya and under ripened mango. Even hints of tart pineapple show up while the ale trends in a smooth and juicy direction with honeydew, pawpaw and a tea-like balance to close.
Medium bodied and slightly fuller from the linger of cereal grains but also made crisper from the peppery hop resins and their nearly tart fruit impressions. More malty than dry, the finish is rather clean and refreshing with an extension of soft spruce, balsa and lemongrass.
