How close can an IPA come to blueberry and lemon pancakes? We're about to find out!
Mirror Twin's Violet Beergarde starts out murky with a matte collection of purples, mauves and rusty violet to rest just below a creamy pinkish stained froth. With a fruit filled perfume of dark berry, citrus, wine and field fruits, the nose is much more fruit beer than IPA. Sweet in its upstart, the creamy cereal malts are laced with cream, vanilla and coconut for a malty, starchy and smoothie-like sweetness.
With a slight show of hops on the middle palate, hints of lime, grapefruit and orange come to mind. But a quick jump of lemon and berry gain quick command as the taste trends into a tart blackberry, blueberry, marion berry direction. With the persistence of cereal and cream, the session starts to look a lot like berry smoothie, pancake and milkshake. A mild bitterness peaks through in the plush malt finish to resemble a sweetness of aspartame.
Full bodied, creamy and plush on the palate, the beer is a full and bready fruit beer with persistent sweetness and a reluctant ability to dry or tighten into anything refreshing, crisp or clean. Instead its a milkshake IPA that celebrates full flavors over drinkability.
