As cold as ice, Mirror Twin's Cold IPA is as cold as an '80's metal band.
Medium straw and cast in a lighter golden chrome, Ronnie James Frio releases a foamy white cap in nearly lager-like fashion. As a scent of herbal, citrusy and spicy hops garner on the nose, the early sweetness is dryly malty with wafer and faint honey.
With the ale starting and trending dry and crisp, its the hops that quickly gain control over the middle palate with the hops of Ekuanot, Incognito and Nelson Sauvin shedding their lemony, orange-like, grapefruit flavors. With more nuanced white grape, passionfruit and kiwi peeking through, the IPA is all about the dried fruits, peels and pulp. With a turn toward bitterness, a sharper tone of lemon pepper, peppery spruce and hay frame the beer's quick late taste.
Light, crisp and refreshing, the beer is an IPA taste in a pilsner-like body. Finishing dry and easily palatable, the session concluded with a snappy taste of a lingering herbal bitter aftertaste.
