While the hops of Citra, Mosaic and Dorado aren't likely to sneak up on any seasoned hop head, the 8.5% in alcohol just might. Mirror Twin's imperial hazy ale makes for a short night that we didn't see coming.
Sneak Attack!! arrives at the bar with a light golden hue, cast in a dense haze and crowning with a rich white lather. A playful scent of tropical fruit takes the lead with a backdrop of citrus and herb. Coating the tongue with a firm malt profile, aspects of cereal, honey and shortcake give a sweeter tone.
As the sweetness slowly fades, the growing hops deliver on those promises of tropical fruit with papaya, pawpaw, passionfruit and banana before a more racy citrus taste of white grapefruit, lemon and yuzu add a brisk tanginess. As the session trends smoothly bitter, hints of green tea, sassafras and verbena come with a soft cedar-like wood perfume. All wrapped in a cocoon of honeydew, the remaining fruit impression remain plump, ripe and radiant throughout.
Medium bodied and dangerously drinkable, this full flavored, crisp and refreshing ale finishes malty-dry and with a brisk hop bite and an aftertaste of muddled citrus and grasses.
