No IPA party is complete without the invite for Mosaic and Lemon Drop hops, and Mirror Twin Brewing is the host. Brewed to imperial strength, this hazy tandem fashionably late in bitterness but never in flavor nor aroma.
The Hazy Bois Are Back In Town shows up with a pale golden hue, saturated in a fine silt haze. As the bone white froth pulls from the body, the nose soon swoons with ripe tropical fruit, mulled citrus, radiant herbal perfumes and botanicals. As its sweetness swirls on the middle palate, notions of shortcake, honey and cereal all come to mind.
As the hops slowly pull from the grain sweetness, bold fruitiness of mulled and stewed fruits share a cocktail of oranges, apples, pineapples, mangos, papayas and pawpaw with a seemingly over-ripe and fruit character. Trailing into a peppery, dank and botanical bitterness for a small semblance of balance, the taste of black tea, verbena, arugula, hemp and spruce take an edge off of the lingering and late sweetness.
Full bodied, creamy and full, the imperial IPA carries a "dirty" hop profile with those peppery and dank hops that's expanded by hints of bruised fruit. Trailing into an aftertaste of damp sod and fruit peels, the session is off-clean and curiously herbal.
