its interesting to me that when in traditional styles you get to a certain level of quality, there is nothing left for a beer to be judged on but its goodness, and this one, my friends, is real good, a beyond prototypical example of the style, european pale malt for sure, but this is both classic and completely present, and while i have not had a ton of their beer, maybe that is why ruse remains a muse for so many. to me german in aroma, with the yeast and the grain together, but this also has its own mineral profile and water chemistry, hopping and dare i say dry hopping, and just a little middle sweetness and body, its so right. lingering to me though a little bit, while crispy, its not exactly as light and clean as the best examples of the style, even if it paces them all in freshness. i have not had anywhere near enough beer from these guys, who continue to get some of the most adoring commentary of the portland breweries. modern and ancient, weighty but crushable, full of uniqueness but also true to style. they nailed this, and i am keen to get into more of their beers...

Solid. Lighter golden bodied, nice 2 finger head, grainy pilsner malt, fairly bready, nicely hopped up with floral and herbal notes. Full flavored, lingers all the way through. I think there is a bit of an abrasive graininess, but still balanced with hops

Look: Clear pale yellow on the pour sets off a nice white head that recedes quickly leaving minimal lacing behind
Aroma: Pilsner malt, grassy and floral hop notes, freshly baked bread, and a little wet straw
Taste: Floral and grassy hops take flight followed quickly by delicious bready pilsner malt. These two go back and forth before finishing with a nice, clean, and crisp light hop note. No dryness detected
Mouthfeel: Great for the style in my opinion – light, medium carbonation, full flavored for the lightness of body and a super clean and crisp finish that is extremely drinkable overall
Overall: This is really good and impressing me more with each sip (gulp). A really well executed take on a helles lager and only my second beer from these folks so far. Recommended and I definitely need to try more of this breweries’ offerings as thus far, I’ve been impressed

1`6 oz can from Lifesource natural Grocers in Salem OR.
$3.49
Pours a very light gold colour..clear as crystal. Lovely thick and frothy head.
Lagerish aroma..paper, white bread, chemical..not expected for a helles.
There is slightly more malt in the taste but not much really..corn?
Mouth feel is watery but well carbonated.
To be honest this is not a helles..it tastes like Olympia.
Weird

On tap at Orenco Taphouse.
A clear light yellow with a dense white head with good retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is soft and grainy with a mild honey, dough, lemon and mint hop character along with grainy note. The palate opens soft and clean with a mild bitterness, a little earthy and minty along with a moderate dough and honey note. The mid palate is distressingly thin and watery, ruining the finish. Clean, crisply carbonated and otherwise refreshing, this beer is decent.
