Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla and a hint of chocolate; a bit boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt, vanilla, milk chocolate, nuts with a little coffee coming through in the finish, which leaves a pleasant vanilla nut aftertaste. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An overall well balanced dessert stout with some really authentic tasting vanilla, which is great because it's the dominant flavor of the four conditioning ingredient. Although the clear front note, it was handled deftly and blends with the malt and other flavors well. The coffee was the faintest flavor, almost absent in most of the taste, but with a bit poking through in the finish. The pecans give a good, light nutty character and the chocolate is also a quite note, more like the chocolate in a chocolate malt than an additive. Vanilla forward, but pleasantly integrated, this is a quite nice evening sweet stout. I bought this thinking it was a Humble Sea Brewing stout (my first from this brewery), but apparently this collab was brewed at Ruse, which is fine because they they have done a fine job with everything I've tried from them. Enjoyable.
