Salt Spring Is. 'ESB' @ 5.5% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $6
A-pour is a light gold from the bottle to clear amber in the glass with a small off white head that is leaving a mnimal lace ring along the pint glass
S-lots of whole cone hops!!
T-big bitter start gives way to a mellow finish that has a lingering bitterness on the palate
MF-medium carbonation , medium body
Ov-ok/good beer 'Naughty Hildegard' is so much better , err bitter

650ml
A: deep golden with amber hints
S: malty with some diacetyl; very straightforward and not complex. No noticeable hops.
T:plain, simple ... finishes long and bitter. A pretty ordinary balanced taste without fault but without much spark either.
M: medium bodied; medium to low carbonation.
O: Not much to write home about. I'm left with a nothing but "bitter" as an overall impression. The diacetyl is also distracting.

A: Colour is paled clear copper and poured with 2 fingers of medium to fine bubble head. The head held on to the glass making delicate streaks of lacing across down the glass, across the top and up the other side.
S: Starts out with notes of rock candy or cotton candy, followed by yeasty dark bread and malts.
T: Forward with the sweet malts, yeast and candy, as it washes back over the tongue the bitter receptors are quickly activated and the taste changes abruptly to an acrid dry bitter, void of any citrus rinds or floral notes. The bitter is simple and traditional to a bitter style. The aftertaste is aggressive and lasting.
M: Medium bodied that leaves a minimal coating over the palate.
O: The flavour improved while the ESB warmed. I enjoyed the quicker interchange between the up front sweet smell & taste and the following quick change to acrid bitters. Would be terrific paired with traditional english fish and chips.
