1st review of this beer on BA. Thanks to leftpaw for bringing this and some other Rowley beers out for Thanksgiving 2019. They all banged.
So this is the second cherry runnings beer, which explains why the appearance was less red/cherry-centric. Comes in more of an amber color with some light haze to it, 1/3" white head. Aroma hits the cherry notes to a lesser degree, a little bit of melon, acetic acid light brett to round it out.
Taste gives more barrel notes than the aroma. Interesting kind of white wine french oak like barrel input alongside a reduced cherry presence (compared to the like 4lb gallon one we had before this). The other one was 8% whereas this is a more fun size 5%. Carbonation just fine on this. I still don't know that this 'tastes' like a saison compared with a wild ale, but style designations aside, its a fun drink regardless. Plenty of pinot tannin smoke hints like presence more noticeable here than when there was a greater cherry and alcohol presence.
