a pumpkin pie spice blonde ale. i havent seen a lot of lighter beers incorporate these spices before, and i think that is the real success of this. while i certainly enjoy a little grain character to keep my beer tasting like beer in these fall spiced brews, i appreciate this being so light in the base, i think it lets just a bit of the usual spices go a longer way, so it doesnt have to be forced. its also not real sweet, which i think allows it to be a bit more drinkable than a lot of these ever are. i get subtle honey and vanilla, more prominent nutmeg and cinnamon, and a warming cooked apple sort of vibe on top of a very pale malt base. the spices have the effect of giving it some depth, but it drinks really light still. a little thin for me even, lightly tinny too, the ferment isnt quite as clean as it probably should be in a blonde ale, but its nicely carbonated and lively, and its not just more of the same with pumpkin pie beer, so i respect that. i had a good time in here and was impressed with their selection, lots of cool fall beers happening right now!
