750 ml bottle picked up from the brewery. Served well chilled into a Chimay chalice. Been looking forward to enjoying this since I first bought it. On the eve of the end of tax season, why the hell not. Listed as 9% ABV.
Appearance - Thin dark cola colored beer spills out into the glass. A small tan head rests on top and burns away inside two minutes. No lacing to speak of just a soapy collar.
Smell - Fairly grainy and some dark chocolate mixed in. Kind of reminds me of a intense Munich Dunkel on aroma alone with some piney hops and molasses to kick up the intensity.
Taste - Lots of molasses, some dark chocolate and astringent piney hops in the background. All over a smooth bready taste. Bitterness is lasting in the aftertaste with this one.
Mouthfeel - Light carbonation, thick and chewy and goes down the gullet remarkably easily. Finishes fairly wet, just a hint of dryness at the close.
Overall - While certainly not my favorite imperial stout, this certainly hits the spot and is a well made example. Looking forward to more seasonals from this up and coming local brewery.
