On this day five years ago, I relocated from my lifelong home of California and took my talents to Wisconsin. I marinated in the IPA, and with Board Shorts being labeled as a California-style IPA, I had confidence to buy a 4 pack. Out of a 16 ounce can, on to the beer:
On the paler side per style with a color that looks around SRM 2 with a chill haze in the body. The head above is modest with renter ion which leaves a few thick rings around the glass. The aroma is hoppy (it better be), taking on the smell of melons. Honeydew, cantaloupe, you are home free.
The 7.2% ABV listed feels and tastes much lighter, like something closer to 5.5%. There is some good going around, even though my inner SoCal would consider the 50 IBUs as weak for an IPA. A nice beer, but not one I would consider to be California styled IPA. Hop bitterness is nowhere, and the beer isn’t aggressive. It’s more soft in the delivery with light and fluffy notes of assorted melons and a kiss of fresh cut grass. With an easier approach and luscious feel, this IPA is as relaxed as a California surfer.
