This beer is simply amazing, but not in a good way. It's apparently a blend of barrel aged barleywine, DIPA, and stout...and it might be the most infected single beer I've had in my life.
About the only positive thing I can say about it is that it has carbonation and doesn't look bad in the glass.

a strange beer from grand lake, who is notorious for making generic beer styles. this is a blend of oatmeal stout, ipa, and barleywine, aged in whiskey barrels for a period of time. the look is dark brown, but not entirely opaque, influenced most by the stout, with that kind of soft and frothy off white head, just under an inch tall. the nose on it is highly tannic, i would have guessed red wine barrel aged rather than whiskey if the bottle didnt tell me otherwise. its sharp, hot, and really not super appealing, although i can tell the oatmeal stout part of this was good as a standalone just by smelling it. the flavor is less tannic and boozy than the smell by a mile, but the blend of flavors im not sure is real jivey. it has some bitterness from the roast of the barley in the stout, and has ipa bitterness as well, making a strange finish, which is way overly whiskey heavy. it smells like it needs way more time in a barrel, but tastes like it needs way less. the body is big and rich, but there is a gap in flavor about mid palate, which the beer just stops, and what comes on after is a bitter mess. i dont dislike it, and in fact love the idea, but i am wishing for a different ratio in the blend, and probably a different barrel, or at least time table on that. good bubbles though and a nice lathery body, but i cant get bast the tannic nose and the way this shows so much more alcohol than it has. a good effort, but in need of much revision.
