For this beer, we took the thickest, most decadent stout we could possibly make and aged it for a year in our favorite bourbon barrels. Jet black and ridiculously full-bodied with abundant dark chocolate and coffee flavors balanced by notes of rich caramel, toffee, and dark fruit, extended barrel aging added complimentary notes of earthy vanilla and woodsy oak.

Type: 16-oz. can

Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
Price: $15.00
From: Tombstone Brewing North in Phoenix, Ariz.
Purchased: May 26, 2021
Consumed: July 24, 2021
Misc.: No canned on date, but I think Jan. 2021
Grabbed a can of this and base version on a work trip to the Phoenix area, which I gave a 4.02 the night before (July 23).. Was assuming it was the January 2021 because it was most recent and the ABV (15.5% lined up). Back of the can read “For this beer, we took the thickest, most decadent stout we could possibly make and aged it for a year in our favorite bourbon barrels. Jet black and ridiculously full-bodied with abundant dark chocolate and coffee flavors balanced by notes of rich caramel, toffee, and dark fruit, extended barrel aging added complimentary notes of earthy vanilla and woodsy oak.”
Poured a pitch black color with one finger of dark khaki tan frothy-to-fizzy head, which dissipated quickly. Fairly serene setting underneath the head with just a few bubbles on the sides of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Smelled all of that 15.5 pct. Damn. Got hot bourbon barrel, dark chocolate syrup, black coffee malts, oaky wood, caramel, vanilla, banana (?), dark fruit, red wine, purple grape and molasses. About as good out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted much better than the nose. So much smoother. In order got dark chocolate syrup, black coffee, bourbon barrel, oaky wood, vanilla, dark fruit, purple grape, red wine, caramel, toffee, sticky molasses, semi-char wood and chocolate milk. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. (Feel - 4.50)
This one grew on me as it went down after the auspicious start. Certainly better than the base beer. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.25)
