This big BBA barleywine pours a dark mahogany brown and settles clear in the glass, sporting a sticky tan head that lingers.
The nose is heavy on the bourbon and the cinnamon, ginger, and orange peel are notable as well, along with caramel and toffee notes. Lots going on here.
The barrel is forward on the taste as well, and works really well with the caramel and toffee notes, with a nice contrast provided by the cinnamon, ginger, and orange peel flavors, especially as the beer warms. It literally tastes like Christmas in a glass.
The mouthfeel is full but a smidge watery, but this is still a delicious beer to enjoy in the fall/winter months.
