Silver Series: Avellana Bourbon BA

Pours an opaque, pitch-black coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate, toffee and hazelnut, as well as just a hint of vanilla. Taste is a decent balance of roasted, caramel malt, strong chocolate, toffee and hazelnut notes as well as some bourbon and hints of vanilla. Finishes rather sweet and slightly boozy, with some chocolate, hazelnut and bourbon lingering in the aftertaste. Full'ish mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation.

I was hopeful yet wary of this since it's the Silver Series, but reads "flavored with hazelnuts" on the label, which is pretty ambiguous wording and I'm convinced that this was brewed with flavoring rather than real hazelnuts. There's a strong hazelnut character to this, which feels somewhat artificial though, while it's also rather sweet and a little boozy. It barely saves itself thanks to a good roasted malt presence balancing out the sweetness somewhat, but still feels like nutella in a glass and I really wish that they declared this as the Pastry Stout it is so that I could have saved my money. I mean, it's okay, but I expect more from the Silver Series.
