Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and coffee, with hints of vanilla, almonds and bourbon-soaked oak also coming through. Taste is an excellent balance of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, dark fruit, with notes of raisin and fig, as well as lighter vanilla, almonds and brown sugar, with just a hint of licorice, spice and oak, Finishes with a light sweetness and some chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla and bourbon lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and low carbonation.
I liked this one a lot better than Avellana, which was way too sweet and heavy on the hazelnuts, but this a lot better balanced, with the almonds staying a lot more in te background and leaving enough room for all of the other notes to breathe, revealing a rich complexity of flavors and great balance of roasted and sweet notes, with the almonds and vanilla almost leaving a certain marcipan impression that never gets too cloying though. There's also a very nice, warming bourbon presence here that never feels overly boozy, with a full and rich body and mouthfeel as well.
