Waking Fantasy

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of roasted, slightly caramelly malt, chocolate, tonka and cinnamon, with just a hint of licorice as well. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt, dark chocolate, strong tonka, with notes of vanilla, woodruff and musty earth, lighter cinnamon and hints of licorice and leather. Finishes bittersweet, with a light sweetness and bitterness as well as some chocolate, tonka and cinnamon lingering in the aftertaste. Full, creamy mouthfeel with a rich body and light carbonation.

Definitely one of the better stouts from my recent Pühaste haul. The tonka is quite strong with this one, but not overbearing, with the cinnamon standing out distincly as well. These are balanced nicely against a medium/strong roast and light/medium bitterness though, as well as chocolate, licore and leather also coming through, which makes for a good interplay of sweet, bitter and roasted notes with a rich tonka and cinnamon presence. Body and mouthfeel are exceptional here, quite rich and full, thick and creamy. I'm not sure if I would label this a Pastry Stout, but if it is, it's a rather well done one.
