This Christmas offering poured a light amber with a 1" head with good retention and lacing. Dry, earthy, grassy, noble hop notes, some warming spice notes. Feel was soft with moderate weight. Don't think I'd agree with the assessment of an AAL, but there may be something lost in translation here.

Here is the description from UnTappd. (I include in its entirety because it is accurate, nice to have truth in advertising. "Víking Jólabjór (Christmas beer) is fermented at low heat. This gives the beer its dense yet soft taste, good balance and body.Caramel malt gives the beer a darker color and taste of caramel and coffee. Perfect for the holidays."

Not only does Jolabjor get truth told about it, but it Looks inviting: a nice foam on an amber bod. Smells of sweet malt. Tastes are balanced. Cleansing and medium-mouthed. Really a Winter lager, which is how UnTappd styles it.

Served on Icelandic Air when leaving Copenhagen. My first from Viking, I went on their website and was surprised not to find the English button. (Iceland's language is hard for the panoply of Nordic people's tongues to understand. So if Viking wants to export, you'd think the site at least would be translatable to English.). Anyhow, the photos and videos are pretty. But it makes that English button (or I find it next time in Iceland), the site should say what motivates them to brew and include some Icelandic lore since that lends to their product's ambience. Skal !

330ml bottle from Vinbudin, Reykjavik December 2014
This beer is definitely not retired, but it should be.
This is just a crap lager, the same as all the other terrible Icelandic pale lagers. Head to Ölvisholt Brugghús, Borg Brugghús or Gæðingur Brugghús if you want proper Icelandic beer.

Pours a medium gold, dark compared to a macro, but not so much for a pils or at least not compared to the dark gold of the Julebryg - Blålys I had right before this. Head is soapy but wimpy. Aroma is the typical pils aroma, maybe a little cheese from the hops. Beer is dry, malt very low in the profile. Really easy drinking and no flaws. Not bad, but not exciting.
