1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - a raspberry wheat ale, apparently so named after the brewery's original moniker, Dog Island Brewing Society, which is a legal no-no. No idea why they choose not to capitalize the 'i' here, though.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat chunky off-white head, which leaves some decent thick spiderweb lace around the glass as it slowly but surely abates.

It smells of fresh raspberry puree, bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser grainy wheatiness, a hint of wet minerality, and some understated earthy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a bit of sweet wheat cereal, a still prominent raspberry fruitiness (one which brings along some of its cherry and blackberry friends), mild earthy yeast notes, and more plain leafy, musty, and herbal hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-placating frothiness, the body a genial middleweight, and mostly smooth, with just a touch of berry tartness playing the proverbial pea here. It finishes off-dry, the mixed malt, fruity raspberry, and generic bitterness presiding.

Overall - this is indeed a pleasant and refreshing quaff, the raspberry essence evolving as things progress. The aroma is straight-up my mom's raspberry cream pie, the flavour mellows into a balanced fruit ale, and it ends much in the same manner. Good, good stuff!
