16 oz Can
Glassware: 0.5 L Festmug
Temp at Pour: 49.7 F
IBU: 23
Look:
The color is a very dark copper that almost looks burnished. The head was initially 1 finger of cream to khaki colored foam; it faded very quickly to nothing. No lacing.
Smell:
Lightly toasted and quite sweet caramel with some bready notes in the background. Hops cannot be detected.
Taste:
The bready notes really come through in the taste and actually take over from the toasted caramel. There is a mild but firm bitterness that makes a welcome appearance. Some woody notes and a slight roasty note (or is that heavily toasted bread or toasted crusts?) are noticeable as is some earthiness. The sip finishes on the dry side and (surprisingly) ever so slightly bitter.
Feel:
Dense and chewy. Perhaps a tad coarse. The body is medium+.
Overall:
An interesting take on an amber Oktoberfest. The nose had me concerned that the beer was going to be an overly sweet caramel bomb, but it really wasn't. The more that I drink of this (and the more that my palette adjusts to it), the more that I like it. But it's not my favorite. It is definitely a beer for the fall/autumn.

A finger’s worth of audibly fizzy active khaki colored froth…. Little to no retention…. Rich caramel color loaded with carbonation throughout…. Nose is sweet caramel and dark breads…. Less sweet more bread on the palate…. Dense and medium bodied…. Decent but unremarkable…
