Name: Vincent Mango
Brewer: St Elmo Brewing
Location: Austin, TX
Style: Kettle Sour
ABV: 5%
Canned: May 2025
Date: 24 July 2025
I took a little beer tour of Austin a couple of years back, and this Brewery was not on my radar. I am using a pint glass, and the serving temperature is 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy, two-fingered white head with average retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass, and the head fizzled to nothing. The beer's color is a light golden yellow, with straw amber hues. The clarity is clear, and it charts at SRM 6. The beer is average for a sour beer.
Nosing the beer, I smell crackers, acidic acid, mango, light barnyard, grass, lightly toasted malts, and earthiness.
The flavors start with mango, surprisingly, the mango is forward compared to the sourness of the beer. I taste acidic acid, light grass, a faint hint of floral esters, and lightly toasted malts.
The mouthfeel is thin, finishing light and refreshing. The body is light with medium-plus carbonation.
Final Thought: The beer was different from several sours I have quaffed over the years. I was expecting more tartness in the body of the beer. There was a separation of flavors, one being mangoes, the other the base beer with a watery divide. The beer is crushable, but I would have liked more puckering with the lovely mango taste.
