a well made medium body brown ale that is awesomely low in alcohol and is dry and drinkable. i like this coming in so low, too many of the true session beers are so hoppy, sour, or fruity that they dont really serve the purpose for me, so this is a nice change of pace in the low test field. chocolate brown in color with a frothy tan head, it has a cocoa powder and chocolate malt aroma to match, and an appreciable english yeast character thats both bready and nutty in here, earthy and grounding, and it dries the flavorful malts out perfectly before the finish. there is a bittering hop to this, but its slight, just enough to keep it balanced, very on style here. smooth going down, i could see this being awesome in a cask format, but i did not observe these guys doing that at their taproom. full flavored and easy drinking brown ale, quite well made, and with a rather complex layering of the malts, well done overall, and perhaps my favorite of the five beers we had in here, although their barleywine was pretty outstanding as well!
