quite possibly my favorite of the beers we drank in here. its a real sturdy take on the style, both sweet and hoppy, with lots of body and lots of layers of flavor. it comes out real cold from the tap, which i never really consider with barleywine, like, i am always having it warmer, but when this is frosty cold, its pretty darn good too. the hops are a little tighter, but so is the alcohol, so i appreciate the malt more in the beginning. its got some caramel and toffee concentrated long boil sweetness to it, and some nuttiness as well, almonds and chestnuts come to mind, toasty and warming, with a wintery baked good sort of complexion. as it warms though, the hops really come out. they are bitter and grassy, and grip me pretty good by the finish. high alpha and fresh, nice with the sweet grain. the booze gets a little hot later in the game, but still seems well covered up for how strong this actually is. the body is really round, but not as rich feeling as some, i could drink a whole glass of this no problem, its not overly sweet either, which helps with that. fairly complex and well done beer, i still taste a little yeast here, maybe a hybrid english style. solid example of the style overall.
