I consider Robert The Bruce the standard for American brewers to perpetuate this under-appreciated style. (The BA average for O'dells 90 Shilling is also up there.) Lo Rez nearly gets to my standard with its 80 Column Wrap; a remarkable achievement for a two year old brewery.
Had on tap at the Map Room (my block's tavern, yet I go in there every other year.) For a style not known for its Looks, 80 Column is just average. But Smells give me lots of roasted caramel and other dark malts. Tastes attack even a little maltier, but by mid-palate the hops balance the sweetness and by the finish there is a pleasant bitter. Refreshing and fortifying.
My first from Lo Rez, so I went on their website and see that I should visit them soon. (So many brewers' taprooms, so little time.) I find it very interesting that they specialize in Belgians and Scots, a unique combination. I hope they pull it off.
