A bit disappointed in this beer. I generally like Irish red ales, and I figured the rum barrels would add something, but the overall effect is boring to me.
Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Dark clear reddish brown. Good initial head and lacing. Distinct rum smell, somewhat muted in the taste. Tastes faintly of cola with toffee and caramel. Flavors are not distinct. Maybe I got a bad can.

Single bottle from the brewery.
Pours a brown color with a red hue.
Nice off white head with fair retention.
Dominant rum aroma. Taste is very much rum as well but it works quite nicely with the red ale.
A nice experience!

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This monster of a brew
pours a clear brown tinged ruby color with a nice head of
off white foam that settles to a thick ring, thin clumping
layer, and sports subtle lacing. Nose of rich rum, brown
sugars, light astringent booze, herbal spice notes, faint
herbal hops, and caramel. Flavors follow nicely with
caramel and dark brown sugars, nice dry oak, subtle
herbal hops, warming rum, and light spice
notes I can not put my finger on. Nice mouth feel;
medium body, medium light carbonation, and
a rich, warming, and dry finish.
Overall, love the name, dig the brew!
Cheers
