Pours deep dark brown, light penetrates at the edges of the glass. Slightly brown head, multiple vigorous pours gives this a nice head, settles quicker than expected into a opaque layer of light brown.

Aroma; dark crusty bread, chocolate and a cola like aroma. Taste follows suit, toasty bread with a chocolate like taste, little bit of hop presence and a minor sweet note that is reminiscent of dark fruit.

Drinks nice and full but very easy to drink; the carbonation comes off as soft and almost gives the sense of creaminess. Slight roast on the aftertaste, with no bitter.

500ml bottle served in a big snifter. If there's a date, I don't see it. Bought it a few days ago at the Metropolitan Market on Mercer Island.

Pours a very dark brown-red color with a big fluffy head that collapses to a dense, centimeter thick cap with thick, curvaceous lacing crawling up the sides of the glass. Smell is light toffee, very clear lager yeast, light aroma of dark fruits, definitely some oak.

Taste is strong on the dates and raisins, but somehow in a refreshing way. Pumpernickel or sticky toffee pudding (molasses, dates), maybe a hint of chocolate. Yeasty/breadiness.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly light and smooth. Overall, I like it a lot.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich ruby-amber hue with a crystal-clear body and good effervescence; head is a finger of compact light-tan foam. It's damn beautiful.

Smell: quite sweet with a definite breadiness, maltiness and biscuitiness. It's very appropriately to-style, if not absolutely to my taste, so I won't ding it for not being my absolute favorite.

Taste: malty and sweet but without too much of the aforementioned biscuity character. For the style, I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: this is a darn good beer; it's actually helping me overcome my general unenthusiasm for the style. Dig it!

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a medium to dark red-orange with a half finger khaki head with great retention and lacing; looks nice. Aroma of dry caramel and biscuit malt, dark dried fruit, a touch of cherry. Flavor is biscuit malt with a touch of caramel, dates, raisins, dried plums. Deep biscuit malt and dates in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A very nice largely traditional doppelbock that has a little more dark biscuit character than usual, leaning towards an old ale character. In my book, that's a really nice combination. The dark fruit notes are classic bock style and I'm liking the rich malt. Looks, tastes and feels quite fine. This might be one of my favorites from Chuckanut now.

500ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. I don’t have a proper glass for this yet. No date seen but I’m confident it’s within its freshness range.
Pours a rich mahogany brown, held up to light appears to have garnet highlights. A generous cap of light khaki head. Good retention and whispy fingers of lace on the glass.
Nose of berries, toffee, overall sweetness.
This is a classic tasting doppelbock. Toffee, dark fruits, medium roasted malts, almost a pecan pie note and chocolate just as a complement. Definitely full flavored.
Smooth, no indication of any alcohol. Slick mouthfeel, easy drinking.
Overall, I enjoyed this one tremendously and don’t understand the low ratings.
Great!

Very dark clear brownish amber brew with coarse, nearly beige foam in the Bitburger Pils glass. This stuff is so sweet it seems beyond any usual Doppelbock. Grainy aroma. Fruity and sugary. Raisins and dried plums. Bitterish pencil shavings aftertaste.

Overall this is kind of simple and sweet but quite sippable. It reminds me of those Winter Warmers English pubs used to keep warm on a shelf below the back bar for the unwary. Maybe it's traditional but I"ve had such good beers from Chuckanut I don't feel obliged to like this one. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in the brewery's town.
