Citra/Nelson Bottle fly is a further exploration of our mixed culture Pale Ales. Citra is a staple of American aroma hops, peachy and intense. Nelson is a New Zealand variety with beautiful wine grape notes. Both hops come together, complimented by the pineapple notes of the brett culture, to create another simple, quaffable and refreshing beer.

Mixed fermentation and aged in a puncheon.

375 ml. bottle.
Brewed March 1, 2019.
Moderate pour yields a two inch white head over a beautifully bright, straw body with nice, sticky lacing. Great nose of slight funk, hay, slight citrus, Sauvignon Blanc grape from the Nelson Sauvin hops, and an earthy/floral thing going on as well. Taste mirrors nose somewhat with the grape really coming to the forefront right through the finish where the peach from the Citra hops takes over at the very end. Wow! Very nice feel and overall, another gem from Greensboro Bend, VT. Cheers to Vasili!

375ml bottle, Brewed March 1, 2019, poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass.

The beer pours a cloudy golden color, lemon hues with a massive foamy white head, nearly four fingers tall that has excellent retention and yields tremendous amounts of sticky lacing. The aroma is nice, bright floral and citrusy hops, loads of funky brett, more earthy and wine like nelson hops bring out the puncheon qualities while mineral water and soft dough linger. The flavors are right in line with the nose, loads of funky brett, nice and fruit forward that really helps drive the hoppiness of the beer, grapefruit peel is assertive and there is ample green and raw bitterness that is tempered at the back by soft oak, lightly vinous acidity and a nice mineral water character. The mouthfeel is great, lively and coating with a sturdy medium body that finishes with a dry bite.

Verdict: A nice hoppy mixed culture ale from Wunderkammer. Loads of Brett in this beer that is well expressed and does a nice job of getting along with the hops.

Somewhat cloudy yellow body with a finger of white fluffy foam and occasional lacing. Lot of brett aromas, with hops, flowers, herbs, grape must, and light peach and citrus zest. Taste is undercut by hops and the watery backbone, with tons of brett, pithy citrus zest, especially lime and lemon, funk, peach and rose essence to try to save it. Interesting more than good. Feel is sharp with brett and hops but then watery. Like the idea, but the execution could be cleaned up.

Chill hazed at first, but clearing up to sparkling gold, building a tall fluffy white foam that retains permanently in chunky rolling mounds with a tall cling at the edges that leaves spotty pock marked lacing.

This is a saison with a serious bite to it. Hay and grass pair with a mild bretty funk and a crisp tangy punch to the palate that's not particularly definitive in flavor but definitely provides a unique experience. It develops with time but very slowly, exhibiting a little citrusy pepper, while not really getting particularly Citra or Nelson forward. It features a pretty bitter swallow that's a little herbal and maybe even vegetal, but not in an off-putting way. The medium light body finishes semi-dry and tingly.

I was hoping for more a discernible contribution from ol' Nelson.
