A- Pours out of the can like any other stout....dark brown, almost black in coloration, doesn't appear to have much for carbonation, and if it does, it seems like it is finely bubbled. The head is a very light caramel/toffee colour and while it starts out a couple of fingers in thickness, it is loud and fizzles out rather promptly, albeit not in a super aggressive manner. As for lacing, it would seem to be the way of the foam.....mild and slips back into the brew quickly, leaving only a watery film on the inside of the glass. Not super impressive by looks....
S- An interestingly smelling stout, that being that it has the dark chocolate/cocoa aromas, some black coffee bitterness, darkly roasted/charred malt robustness and Earthiness, yet there is an underlying dark fruity, almost root like aroma about it. I don't feel like I would be wrong to say that there is an element of spice to this stout, and the syrupy dried dark fruit makes it smell slightly dessert like.
T- Yup, this is interesting alright! Again, the classic stout elements follow suit to the aromas (dark chocolate, black coffee, dark chocolate and/or black malt dryness/bitterness), however the chocolate reminds me more of a Mexican style hot chocolate, perhaps some candy sugar sweetness and dark dried fruit. There is a slightly spiced Earthiness lingering in the background.....slightly of cinnamon, slightly of sarsaparilla. The finish is fairly light actually, slightly dry and the spice that I encountered lingers beyond the swallow. Different in a good way.
M/O- The mouthfeel/body is thinner than I would have initially thought, yet fits in with this Belgian inspiration, that being medium, slightly leaning light, and as I suspected, the carbonation is light, but it is velvety, and the overall impression of this one is that it is a nice drinking, but different, sorta stout! Candied, fruity, roasty/toasty, some dry chocolate/coffee....yeah this is good....I like it and think it holds up!
