There is an indented date stamp in black on a black label near the bar code: "07/19/23"
The body is a light gold color and it is slightly hazy. It has a medium-short fluffy white head that has good retention and leaves some nice slopes of lacing along the edges of the glass. It's a good looking beer.
Aroma: There is a light cereal grain aroma with a hint of herbal hops. The aroma as a whole is pretty subdued but it smells nice.
Taste: There is a light berry flavor towards the front of the palate along with just a very light touch of sweet cereal grain flavor that becomes a touch stronger as it moves towards the center of the palate. It has a medium-strength herbal hop flavor towards the middle and back of the palate. It finishes with a very light berry and some mossy character with bitter herbs at the very back.
Mouthfeel: The body rests on the lower edge of medium. It has a medium-low hop bitterness which comes across as an herbal bitterness similar to what you would get from cooking herbs. It drinks somewhat slow given the body and bitterness.
Overall: The label simply states "Pilsner" and "4.8% ABV." The name Boissevain is very likely from the name of one of the two streets that intersect just outside the brewery, which is called Boissevain. The Benchtop website also states that this beer is "made with 100% VA grown malt" which is neat. It's a pretty good pilsner but it isn't as good as some of the other offerings at Benchtop. There is a foeder depicted on the label for this can but it doesn't state if it is actually foeder aged. It lacks the smoothness that most of their foeder aged beers have. I could probably drink it again but it's not one I would rush out to buy. I would recommend grabbing a single glass on draft or a single can if you can because it's interesting enough for one but not good enough for two.
