I had a 330ml bottle.
Appearance: good dark brown colour highlighting the malts with small off white head that fell flat a fhe beer warmed up a bit.
Aroma: not much initially. Getting some caramel as I progress and some faint tobacco.
Flavour: nice caramel malty flavour through out. Easy drinking, medium carbonation. It does not pack much of a punch and while it has good balance the bitterness is light and it lacks complexity for me.
Overall: an average beer. Nice flavour, light aroma, smooth easy drinking but lacking punch and anything unique to lift my rating.

This is the first 3 Ravens I've had to review however it is not the first I've tried, I believe that honour goes to "3 Ravens 55" the APA, I don't recall being particularly impressed with them but I'll reserve that judgement until the end of this review. I am however a tad concerned about the low alcohol content of this ESB and I wonder if they'll be able to pack in enough flavour to sate my rich ESB tastes.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a nonic pint.

A: Clear caramel borderline chocolate body with a nice khaki half centimetre head on top. Tasty looking then.

S: Aroma is a bit of a mixed bag - on the one hand there are some nice fruity hops, dark fruit and caramel malts but on the other there is a touch of metal and some dirty pub floor notes.

T: As above there is the classic balancing act of an ESB between fruity hops and caramel malt with neither coming out as the dominant flavour, however it is as I feared a bit underwhelming and lacking intensity (even for an English Ale the flavour is quite muted). Thankfully though the metal is less present than expected and the pub floor is noted in aroma only - I'm not a fan of licking pub floors, that's what a mop is for.

M: Mid to light with a bit of wateriness and a mid to light carbonation.

D: Well I was concerned from the start that the low ABV would translate to low flavour and I was right - this beer could definitely have benefited from a bit of gusto, as it is I wouldn't recommend it as there are far too many good ESB's out there like Fuller's ESB or Well's Bombardier. This is one wasted opportunity for 3 Ravens.

Food match: Pork pies, hearty lamb soup and cottage pie are decent matches for this brew.
