500ml bottle poured into pint glass

L - copper, cloudy, pours a reasonable sized beige head that fades to a lacing

S - golden syrup, dark fruits notes in an overall nutty, caramel malt and moist soil like aroma

T - moderate syrupy, and burnt sugar sweetness, with a nice bitterness and boozy warmness switching in 2/3 the way through. A touch of cinnamon as well the finish. Dark fruits (plums and dates) drifting in and out, and in the lingering aftertaste.

M - well carbonated for style, dryish texture, quite noted the alcohol content, feels more like 7-8%

O - good winter beer, the warming feeling is quite strong - like a bit of port has been thrown in. Worthy of an ESB tag.

Bottle purchased from Plonk in Canberra, when there was a terrible rumour going around that these guys were shutting up shop.

Pours a very pleasant burnished, bright copper colour, with a filmy, slightly bubbly off-white head. Retention is pretty poor, all things considered, just forming a wide ring of bubbles and some speckled lace. Body is solid, and holds some fine carbonation when it's tilted. Colour is great: overall, it's a decent-looking beer.

Nose is earthy and slightly spicy, with some herbal elements, and some mineral characters coming through. Coppery and sparkling, with crushed parsley, leafy English hops and almost a hint of pine: it's not quite pine, but it has that slightly resinous sharpness. Very interesting stuff.

Taste is smooth but flavoursome. Bigger malty characters here, with a chewy grain note through the palate, balanced and kept in check by big earthy and organic hops, and a very slight bite of smoke. Not a lot in terms of raw bitterness, but the hops mesh with the deep, sweet toffee-like malts to give a character not unlike peachskin. It's fruity, and yet dusky and slightly biting at the same time.

Feel is smooth and solid: it forms a very decent base for everything else that's going on.

3 Ravens never give me a beer which really blows me away. But they never, ever disappoint me. This is very solid stuff from them yet again: a very decently made and very tasty ESB, tending to an English Strong.

Dark copper - bit cloudy, nice creamy head - appears bottle conditioned.... No best before date (which I hate), which means I took a gamble buying it at $12. Somewhat reminiscent of a fullers ESB, but this one is tarnished by what seems to be a mild oxidative note that clouds some of the character. Still nice enough, with some earthy english hop character, a polished, rounded bitterness and a hint of elegant toffee like maltiness. I can almost imagine this would be a great beer when fresh...

This brew pours a burnt amber hue with beautiful carbonation that leaves behind a creamy two finger head with heaps of lacing everywhere,it has a strong roasted barley aroma to it with also some hints of toffee and fruity bitterness,it has a medium bodied mouthfeel which is nicely carbonated and suits the style and the first taste i get is caramel, toffee and sticky date pudding followed by some roasty barley notes and finished off with a bitter sugar coated rockmelon finish and the finish is definately bittersweet and very well balanced and overall im quite proud to say that this is probably 3 Ravens best one off brew for my palette and i find it really tasty and very drinkable and the only other thing i have to say is that this brewery in my mind is going in the right direction with these one off brews and im glad to say that persistence pays off keep it up guys.

Glad the have re-bottled this one, had it on tap a few times at lambs-go-bar and was impressed.

A- Pours a dark ambery brown, with about 2cm of bubbly head, looks pretty good.

S- whole bunch of malts, a touch of dark fruit, maybe a bit of sultana, smell a tiny bit of hops, but only really there to smooth things out. not great, but pretty pleasant.

M- A fair bit of malt happening in there, not sweet, but seems more substantial, bready, a touch of caramel, hops are slight, and really only there to round things out. quite nice, but nothing outstanding.

M- after the initial pour i was worried that it would be overcarbonated, but it died down and became pretty tepid, although in a good way as it seems to fit the style, it feels very creamy, medium bodied with a very very slightly bitter finish that only seems to be there to round things out. a touch drying at the end. pretty spot on.

D- i like this beer, i could easily sit back on a chilly evening and drink 2 or 3 of these.

Pours copper/ruby with a very small but lasting head.
Nose is very heavy on the malt, with caramel, golden syrup and figs to be found. Very rich. Nutty and bready notes follow later. Resinous hops are noticeable but struggle to keep up with the malt. Very nice!
Flavours are similarly rich with loads of nutty notes, darker malt (even some prominent roasted barley) and some of the caramel mentioned earlier. Hops really take a back seat here. Finishes with an assertive roasty and hoppy bitterness. Some alcohol is just noticeable.
The body could be a bit richer, with such complex flavours it sometimes becomes watery.
Seems to be a mish-mash of the ESB and English strong ale stryles, with a healthy dose of roasted barley chucked in for good measure.
