Had if from tap into a pint glass. Very rich dark brown with a good beige head and excellent lacing. Dark chocolate smell and taste. Flavors of dark roast coffee, licorice and dark cherry. Overall a very nice porter.

i didnt realize this one was so strong, it drinks mellow and easy, a nice session type roasty beer as the body isnt too big and its quite dry at the end, with some nice bitterness from the dark grain and no real attempt to offset it. perhaps not the most distinctive porter in the world, but its definitely well made and a fine introduction to what these guys are up to. i think its a great food beer, and in our context of gourmet wood fired pizzas, it was the perfect sipper. the char on the crust nice with the roasted grain, and the rich oily sauce and cheese is no problem, this beer can stand up to these robust flavors and textures with ease. i get a light tobacco and brown sugar wash in the middle, some weak drip coffee in the finish, and the lightest english breadiness to it as well. no trace of its strength, and i would have guessed it was below 6% abv. smooth and mild in mouthfeel, lighter carbonation and balanced in the finish. solid beer, certainly not the most ambitious i had from these guys during the week, but i would go back to this one with a porter craving and be perfectly satisfied...
