The de facto flagship beer of our lineup, our West Coast IPA pays homage to Marcus' old school California origins with some Texas-persuaded adaptations. Abandoning the darker, sometimes egregiously sweet copper colored malt bombs that made up the gold standard of IPAs from the mid-to-late 90s to the early 2000s, our West Coast is leading the IPA reformation in San Antonio with a dry, crisp, and citrus forward profile, outselling all other craft IPAs in the region three-to-one. A bursting bouquet of tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, and other bright citrus aromatics leads the charge with just enough residual malt sugars to offer a modest body and balance out a moderate level of IBUs. A light cereal-like malt sweetness lifts the overall hop profile without getting in the way of the ballet of resinous, piney, and citrus characters that make up the bulk of the flavor profile. This modern classic is the archetype of the new age West Coast IPA.

Draft in traditional straight pint glass. Nice traditional IPA, west coast. Golden-copper
Solid malt base, good balance. Moderate nose, but nice mild bitter finish.

Pours true to the name, clear and clean. (I write that all the time.) citrus and pine and mostly pineapple on the nose. Approachable bitterness on the finish. Unfortunately, as it warms there’s an off-note that emerges, ever so slightly. It’s a well crafted west coast IPA that could be a victim of a dirty line, or a minor flaw. But the pieces are all there.

Mostly clear light bronze with a couple fingers of airy, off-white head. Moderate retention and soap bubble lacing.
Black pepper, toasty biscuits, pine and orange in the nose.
Mix of toasty malts and dull earthy hops up front in the taste. There’s a hint of orange, and a strong tea-like in the finish that’s only moderately bitter.
Medium to full bodied with good carbonation fizz.
This tastes more like an English IPA than a West Coast IPA to me. The strong tea is not what I’m looking for in the style.

First Weathered Souls brew for me, nice to see them on the shelves in Idaho; 16oz can poured into an IPA glass. Pours a clearish gold until the bottom of the can, where there apparently was a metric ton of hop sediment waiting. Malty, resiny, pithy, clean, bitter, crisp and floral, with lots of dry, earthy hop notes and a touch of citrus rind complementing. A straight-forward West Coast IPA.

Pours like liquid amber-gold with a nice white head that lingers. Citrus hops with a bit of pine on the nose. Bitter, a bit metallic, and dank hoppy taste. Medium body, a fair IPA.

Big head. Chunks of lace with a slow fade. Chill haazy burnt orange liquid. Clears as it warms. This is classic West Coast IPA.
Nose has big toasted malt front, Mild caramel sweetness, and loads of pine and citrus. Orange and grapefruit are the stars here. Very old school.
Taste is like the nose. Classic West Coast IPA profile with a signature and unique malt backbone that sets it apart. and links to the classics at the same time. Malt has an almost smokey toasted edge. The the hops completely take over and build from a base of pine to a towering enamel peel of grapefruit and hop oil. Finish is surprisingly short, with just a mld shot of oil lingering and and drying my mouth.
Feel is light medium, just a touch heavier that your typical amber ale. Crisp carbonation give a refreshing feel and like any good WCIPA it's an excellent thirst quencher.
A classic resurrected. With all the attention IPA get its easy to forget the the pioneering styles and flavors that made I so popular. This is a unapologetic tribute to those beers like Wipeout from Port Brewing. The ones that get no recognition from the trends but live on in the memories of the knowledgeable.

Clear amber with an off-white head. Grapefruit, orange, pineapple with slight resin and earthy and piney hops. Taste I actually get a good amount of coconut amongst the citrus and the weedy, earthy and sharp piney hops with a touch of resin. Malt is barley present which leads to the feel reflecting this too, light body but great hop character carries it through most of the sip, just need a little more of an anchor for the hops. Still a good ipa for any time

Another beer from IPAFEST and my notes. A Texas beer I had high hopes for poured a light hazy orange color from a 16 ounce can dated ??/30/21. Aroma was very malty. Taste was skunky malt and a dry slight bitterness. A moderate mouthfeel but dry. Overall it's too dry for my tastes.

Poured from can into tulip, good 1 finger cream colored head, good retention and lacing. Clear golden in the glass, until I dumped the remaining beer in the can. Smells of citrus (grapefruit), ripe pineapple, pine and a slight underlying dankness. Taste is sweet malt, then a big slam of grapefruit, straight up grapefruit bomb. First sip caught me offguard, but after a few sips it slides right in. Once the grapefruit levels off the pine, pineapple, slight caramel start to come thru. This is a very weird beer, the finish has a good firm bitterness grapefruit bitterness, that lingers on the palate, something similar to grapefruit juice. Nice.
