Maple nitro version:

2024 nitro on draft at Mortalis. Great thick tight mocha head. Aroma is a cherry meets bourbon barrel vibe. First sips are a burst of coconut and sweet bourbon, with only a hint of tannins drying out the back end. Mouthfeel for the nitro is phenomenally creamy and thick, but not syrupy. Alcohol brings quick warming, appreciates on this 30 degree but raining day. Excellent brew!

2023 Release. This iteration was double barreled in Bourbon & Apple Brandy.

Pitch black pour, with a nice deep brown head retention that is slow to dissolve back into the body of the beer.

The nose is rich and sweet, loaded with notes of candied coconut and Charleston Chew candy bars. With some time in the glass, the apple brandy really begins to shine; caramel apple vibes for days.

The palate retains the familiar vanilla and coconut adjuncts, but really does well to initially feature that double barrel treatment into the experience. Following the mildly bittering toasted coconut is that apple brandy barrel; caramel apple crumble and a mildly tannic quality on the tail.

Medium viscosity but good weight to the base beer. The carbonation is present but soft, and the finish is warming to accompany a touch of residual bitterness.

Overall what I appreciated most about this was the balanced expression of each component. Vanilla, coconut, apple brandy, and bourbon all exude their influence without anything becoming off-putting or overwhelming. This really is an elegant example of a double-aged, adjuncted stout.

Sick! Great stuff. Flavours intact, massive feel… A definite “I’d drink again!” Having spent some years in the bottle, and still this good… I am floored.

Pour is straight La Brea tar pits. At least it's black, especially relative to the odd looking Alexandria before it, but there is absolutely no head AT ALL, no matter how you try to coax it up through that viscous black hell.

Delicate coconut pairs well with woody undertones that slowly reveal a fairly hot and peppery whiskey booze.

On the palate it's actually fairly measured relative to both the appearance and its description, but also unsurprisingly viscous, and maybe too sweetly sticky in the finish.

This is the real deal. Well balanced and extremely drinkable with being cloyingly sweet. Some pretty good barrel character too.
