We are excited to release a new stout from Shared for you this week! This new beer integrates some of our favorite adjuncts - banana nibs, cocoa nibs and coconut flakes. Many of you will remember the first time we used banana nibs - in Brooklyn Vibes, a collaboration with our buddies at Other Half. We took inspiration from that beer and made some tweaks and additions to further improve on it and its presentation in the glass.
Introducing Flambé! Flambé uses one of our base stout recipes with some subtle changes to lay the best foundation possible for these decadent adjuncts. We also introduced Ghanan cocoa nibs to the mix to soften and add an additional layer of chocolate to our already chocolatey Imperial Stout recipe. The banana presence is better integrated, more layered, and more intense on the nose with the coconut and cocoa nibs providing a very soft and round experience that showcases all of the ingredients in harmony!

Bottle. Tan head. Oil black color. Thiccc.
Up front this tastes like a well aged expedition stout. Rich, chocolate, fudge, light roast, hint of coffee, and some dark dried fruits, molasses, raisin, etc. The adjuncts show a bit more towards the back end and finish, but never overpower the beer. Really well balanced and maybe even undertones. Nice coconut and excellent execution with the banana. All around, an incredible stout that doesn’t get even close to the pastry level.

Pours black with mocha foam. Aroma is banana with lots of twang and emphasis. Roasty and toasty malts add support, and consistency to the storyline. Coconut thickens the aroma even further. Milk chocolate is the solo sugary note here, with balance set to middle-ground. Flavor profile is banana, to the point of emphasis and detraction from others. Coconut and chocolate add some further sweetness, and help develop a storyline around the banana. Roasty and toasty malts are the bold, firm foundation for everything else, giving it lovely depth. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety, but not full, texture. Overall, big ol' glass of banana with heavy coconut behind. The firmness of the stout helps keep this glued together.

Poured at the Side Project Cellar on 2/19/22 as part of their Stout Week celebration. Pitch black with dark mocha head. The nose on this beer is one of the most potent I've whiffed at in some time. The way the banana scent plays with the heavy malt bill made me think of some weird rotten/putrid banana smell. But what does my nose say? My buddy thought it was banana bread. Either way, it had a strong banana influence. Once the liquid hit the palate however, the mouth was awash with a slick sweetness that gave way to a very strong banana presence. This was intermixed with a very slight chocolate feel. I really liked it. I am lowering my overall score however, because I didn't get any of the coconut as a flavor. I am sure it added to the slickness and sweetness, but I wish I would've picked up a flavor component.

poured from a 750mL bottle into a snifter. pours a thick, oily black with almost no head. merely a few bubbles here and there. legs run down the glass after every sip. aromas of chocolate covered bananas with a subtle sweet coconut background. taste presents more chocolate and coconut, especially as it warms. the banana is there but in the best way. not too strong, definitely not artificial tasting. superb mouthfeel. thick from start to finish. really impressed with this one. figured i’d like it, not love it but it’s definitely a winner.
