Type: 12-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial Stout
Glass: Ball 16-oz. mason jar
Price: $6.19
From: Bottlecraft Beer Shop in San Diego, Calif. (Liberty Station)
Purchased: July 31, 2021
Consumed: Aug. 20, 2021
Misc.: No canned on date; Best by Jan. 29, 2022

Picked up four different beers from Bottlecraft while in Liberty Station. Online description for this one was an “Imperial stout with raspberry puree and milk sugar.”

Poured a pitch-black color with two fingers of khaki-tan frothy head which thinned out quickly. Could see some bubbles slowly moving toward the top of the glass at different speeds. World-class uneven lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled white chocolate, raspberry, raspberry puree, chocolate syrup, sugary cereal milk and raspberry jelly donuts. More of those donut pastry notes from the can. (Smell - 4.25)

Wow. About as good as I wanted it to be when I tasted it. In order got white chocolate, raspberry, raspberry puree, chocolate syrup, sugary cereal milk, raspberry jelly donut and milk chocolate. Tasted nowhere near 11 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body, Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)

Really liked this. About as good as I wanted it. Excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

Really good!!!! This is a dessert beer/slow sipper and I had it with a thick pork chop broiled in a cast-iron pan, but it makes no difference!!! Quality is quality. Poured from a 12 oz can into an Air Force Academy snifter, this beer is a dense brown color with a fast-fading, bubbly dark tan head. No lacing on the glass. The aroma and taste were great. Tons of fresh raspberry and raspberry syrup, rich dark chocolate and sweet malt (sugar and lactose) are the featured item in this beer. Sweet and fruity, but not cloying or with artificial flavoring, I enjoyed every slow sip!!!! Mouthfeel was rich and malty. Some alcohol presence, mostly warming but with a little bite to off set the malty smoothness. If I had another one, it wouldn't be with dinner, just a nice slow evening sipping experience!!!!

Not a favorite of mine but it isn't bad. I'm just not a huge raspberry fan and this one is strong on that front. It's on par with their normal stout releases as far as feel and look.

Poured moderately hard from a can into a snifter glass, reverse waterfalling a couple fingers of light brown head eventually. Head slowly faded to nothing on top of a black/brown body. Smell is intense and sweet raspberry, very dessert-like. Taste follows, with lots of raspberry with a background of sweet chocolate. Can just detect the milk sugar. Tastes almost like a raspberry jelly filled Godiva chocolate square, absolutely amazing. Best chocolate raspberry stout I've had. A bit of cloying sweetness, but that's to be expected and doesn't really detract. Medium bodied with pretty minimal carbonation after the pour. Super impressed, glad I got 4 pack even though my collection is too large!

A - Dark brown pour with a little bit of pink around the edges.

S - Chocolate & raspberry dominate the nose with a very slight bit of delicate char.

T - Chocolate, raspberry, a slight bit of tart raspberry tartness. Starts sweet, ends sweet.

M - Thick and syrupy with slight warming on the way down.

O - Dessert beer right here and done very well at that.

Poured from a can dated two weeks ago in a tulip glass. Appearance is nearly black with ruby brown highlights. Small amount of light brown foam quickly dissipates, leaving an attractive but rather pedestrian appearance. The nose bursts with raspberry aroma. The taste is dominated up front by an intense and delicious raspberry flavor that unfortunately gives way to a mediocre milk stout, but then rebounds with a lingering sweetness on the finish. The alcohol is extremely well hidden for such a high ABV. Sweet but not too sweet, a little tangy and a bit dry. A little sticky and syrupy. Overall an interesting, flavorful experience.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high light tan head that left a thin film of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderately strong aromas of raspberry purée are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of raspberry purée/liqeur along with underlying notes of chocolate. It kind of tastes like the flavors you get right upon biting into a raspberry filled milk chocolate.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This stout is bursting with aromas and flavors of raspberries. It's rather easy to drink considering that it isn't really that heavy in body compared to other beers of this strength. It also does a very good job at hiding the alcohol from the taste.
