tart and modern on the hops, this is a neat wood aged funky saison, maybe not quite as compelling as some of the others i have had from these guys in this style range, but a darn tasty brew, unique and well refined, even if the base seems a little young and still developing, and even if some of the nuance seems to be covered up by all the hops. i dont usually associate hallertau blanc with this level of intensity, but its crazy in both the aroma and flavor of this hazy yellow fizzy brew. it smells like gatorade mix, tastes like mandarin oranges and puckery citrus and sweet green grapes, and it even packs a little bitterness. the light acidity in here seems to play up some of its fruity character and hold onto it awhile. lime and raw wheat through the whole drink, subtle honeydew melon and white wine too, some of the oak adding to the vinous character of the beer overall, still kind of rustic, but the hop proportion is majorly new school. the brett is there, the sourness is clean, and i found the effervescent carbonation to be just right with these flavors. a pretty cool beer, i am loving the funky ones from matchless so far. it seems to me like these guys deserve way more attention than they have gotten so far. this one seems just a little forced if im being critical, but i like the trajectory they are on!
