Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at New Park Brewing, West Hartford, CT
Canned on 12/22/2020
Served in a Rastal Harmony stemless glass
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a four pack of this.
The beer poured a burnished yellow-orange hue, not too dissimilar from actual passionfruit juice. A fizzy, finger-tall, off-white crown topped the liquid, but it quickly dissolved. No lacing whatsoever.
Passionfruit dominated in the aroma and became even more punchy as the beer warmed. Perhaps there was a bit of guava as well, but it was quite subtle. Touch of musty, overripe fruit character too. All in all, quite simple yet very enjoyable.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose but definitely less potent and more tart. Passionfruit was again most noticeable but definitely more subtle here. Hint of guava possibly too. Tart lemony notes appeared in the center. Touch of wheatiness. More passionfruit and lingering tartness on the back end and the finish.
The mouthfeel was lighter bodied and quite fizzy. A fine, fair aggressive effervescence made the liquid feel somewhat airy and over carbonated. With time, the carbonation settled to a somewhat more appropriate level.
Blender Guava-Passionfruit Is another solid yet unremarkable release in New Park Brewing’s Blender beer series. These folks just released their first Double Blender beer, and I hope we see more of these in the future. The original Blender beers are pretty underwhelming compared to many of the other fruited sours that are currently being produced by other breweries.
