A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Dank herbal notes, spicy resinous pine, citrus zest, light underlying tropical and stone fruit, and bready malt.

T: Spicy resinous pine, slightly dank herbal notes, citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon, a little underlying tropical and stone fruit, peach, passion fruit, mango, and a hint of blueberry, a touch floral, bready malt, and a crisp dry finish.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Quintessential West Coast IPA. Bitter, dank, dry.

On tap at O’Brien’s, Silva tap takeover

This brew has flown under the radar for awhile now. Not sure if it’s because of Chuck Silva’s smaller sphere on influence (he was the original head brewer of Green Flash), or just that the entire West Coast has pretty much given up on BeerAdvocate, but either way this beer deserves a lot more exposure.

Very reminiscent of the original Wesr Coast Ipa, just ramped up…super piny, citrusy, crisp. Nose is of orange pith and lemon pepper. Dry, short finish, especially for the style.

Could swim in this one, knock out IPA.

Handsome clear orangey amber brew with plenty of foam in the Tripel Karmeliet tulip. Intense nose of mango and orange with a whiff of the compost heap. Massive hop flavors. All the citrus and a woody aftertaste.

Moderate bitterness but clearly West Coast style. Quite boldly flavored, more like a DIPA. Huge malt and fairly sweet. Quite pleasant for sipping. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.
